Four Skilled Physicians To Support Key West Safety And Rescue Team
When the Race World Offshore Key West Offshore Racing World Championships kick off in early November, the SSR Safety and Rescue Services group led by Shawn Steinert will be backed up on-site four top physicians on site for all three races. It is the first such four-physician team to be on-call during the annual Key West races.

The four-physician group will be led by Colorado’s Dr. Michael E. Janssen, a renowned spinal/orthopedic surgeon and former offshore racer who is well-known for his dedication to the offshore racing community. Janssen will be joined by Dr. Kellee Reed, who is board-certified in emergency medicine and lives in Florida, board-certified neurosurgeon Sean Markey of Colorado and Dr. Mac Sims, and board-certified orthopedic trauma surgeon from Georgia.
“I am super excited to announce that we should four well-trained and experienced medical/surgical physicians in Key West to support the amazing rescue dive team,” Janssen wrote in an email to Larry Bleil, the head of Race World Offshore. “I am personally very familiar with the skills , talents and experience of each one of them .
“This clearly raises the standards for safety and on-site medical care for racers,” he added.
