Miss GEICO And Offshore Racing Services Creating New Deck Tooling For Damaged CT Marine Cat

That no one was injured when the 44-foot CT Marine Victory-built catamaran launched off the back of the 52-foot CMS catamaran during the second day of racing in the Super Boat International Offshore World Championships in Key West, Fla., last month was miraculous. But the launch, landing and rollover of the CT Marine cat owned and driven by Andy Strobert and throttled by Billy Moore left the 44-footer’s deck mostly destroyed.

Restoration Dedication In Rockville

marylandoffshore 07

For Andy Imhof and his crew at Maryland Offshore Performance Marine Center, giving new life to older boats such as this 36-foot Apache (above) is a labor of love (click image for full frame).

The founder and owner of Maryland Offshore Performance Marine Center, 49-year-old Andy Imhof holds a degree in economics from St. Lawrence University. As it turns out, Imhof, who started his business in 1996 and moved into his current 10,000-square-foot digs three years later, actually puts his degree to good use every day.

“I think it helps with the business development side of things,” he said. “I also think it helps when I talk to our customers. A lot of them are successful business people.”

But the education of Andy Imhof, at least as it supports his full-service Rockville-based operation, started long before he took his first college course. His uncle, Ron Brown, a contemporary of tunnel-boat racing legends Bill Seebold, Reggie Fountain, Jr., and Earl Bentz, got him excited about—and educated him in—the high-performance powerboat world.

For a look at various Maryland Offshore Performance Marine Center restoration and rigging projects in various stages, check out the slideshow above.
