Pinisetti And Torrente Teaming Up For Lake Of The Ozarks Shootout

Representing DCB Performance Marine at a slew of go-fast boating events in their Cowboy & Indian M37R Widebody catamaran this summer, Kelly ‘O’Hara and Kiran Pinisetti won’t run the boat in the late-August Lake of the Ozarks Shootout competition. They’re just not into it.

But Jessica Pinisetti and three-time F1H2O world champion Shaun Torrente will, and both are looking forward to the experience.

Torrente, who owns STR (Shaun Torrente Racing) in Southwest Florida, got to know each other and became friends with the Pinisettis—who co-own the 37-footer with the O’Haras— last year when the couple took his hands-on driving school course. A few months after completing the course, Kiran Pinisetti asked Torrente if he would run the three-quarter-mile course with Jessica, and Torrente agreed.

“It will be fun—it’s about having fun and being safe,” Torrente said. “We’ll play with a few things to see what we can get out of the boat, but we’re going there to have some fun.”

A competitive, a 5’3″ equestrian whose preferred discipline is jumping 1,500-pound horses over barriers significantly taller than she is, Jessica Pinisetti not only enjoyed Torrente’s instruction, she’s looking forward to running the Shootout course in Central Missouri with him.

The idea germinated and grew organically while the Pinisettis were chatting with Torrente and their friends Greg and Heather Sheller, who also took the driving course, at the end of the day.

The Pinisettis learned a great deal from Torrente and enjoyed the time they spent with him.

“I think it was Kiran who said to Torrente, ‘Hey, you should run it in the Shootout’ and Torrente agreed and he said, ‘Well, let’s have Jess in it too,’” Jessica Pinisetti recalled. “We were just sitting around the boat, chatting and laughing and, well, there you go.”

Torrente will throttle. Pinisetti, who developed plenty of confidence in her former instructor during the course, will be behind the wheel.

“The course was great—we learned so much—and he was a great instructor,” she said. “He made it fun and easy and we were calm and chill through the whole thing.

“I was a little nervous about it but I loved it all it,” she continued. “He made it so easy and built a lot of confidence in me being able to drive our boat.”

Asked about her goal for the Shootout, Pinisetti laughed. “Well, obviously to have the best speed,” she said.
