Sneak Peek—Mystic M5200 Center Console No. 7 Angles For ‘Edgy’

Of the six Mystic Powerboats M5200 center consoles delivered by the DeLand, Fla., company during the past almost four years, all have been—at least from aesthetic perspective—more stately than sporty. This is not a bad thing. The beautiful, outboard engine-powered 52-footer is a seaworthy beast loaded with amenities.

The graphics for Mystic M5200 center console No. 7 are a complete departure from everything before them.

The substantial center console doesn’t simply boast a cabin you could stay in during a Bahamas trip, for example. It boasts a cabin you’d want to stay in during such an adventure. The boat’s outdoor spaces are just as cushy, well-appointed and thoughtfully designed.

But no one with eyes and a dictionary would describe any of the half dozen M5200s built so far as “edgy.”

Out of paint and currently in rigging, Chris Richards’ 52-foot center console is about to change that.

The Angle of Attack Marine M5200’s color scheme will almost match that of the owner’s C4000 catamaran (see image below).

“With the lime-green and black graphics, this one definitely has a more edgy look to it,” Doug Harrell, Mystic’s full-time paint-man, explained yesterday to a visiting reporter. “It also the first 52 we’ve done with a completely painted interior, including on the ‘wings’ for the top. All of the others were finished in gelcoat.

“Chris and I went back and forth for months on designs,” he added. “I think it turned out really good. And I can’t wait to see it with the top on. There’s a lot to that piece.”

The 52-footer’s top is almost ready for installation.

Richards owns Angle of Attack Marine, Mystic’s dealer in South Florida. A true believer in the brand, he also owns an outboard engine-powered Mystic C4000 catamaran—and has another one ordered—and a C4400 cat with stern-drive power. With his coming 52-footer to be unveiled during the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show in October, Richards is hoping to expand Mystic’s customer base to owners with more-aggressive, fashion-forward aesthetic sensibilities.

That has Mystic Powerboats general manager Ryan Zivitski, who like Harrell is celebrating his 15th year with the company John Cosker founded in 1996 and still owns, eager for the boat’s unveiling this fall.

Mystic’s Doug Harrell (left) and Ryan Zivitski are eager to see the finished product in action.

“I am excited to see where it takes us,” Zivitski said. “I believe that with every boat we’ve built weve gotten better, and I am eager to do see what this one does.

“It is little different than the other 5200s—more edgy and more sporty for sure,” he continued. “But once our customers see something one time, they tend to fall in love with it.”

Mystic is, of course, a custom center console and catamaran builder. Cosker, Harrell, Zivitski and company are not about to steer more-conservative customers toward such bold and aggressive graphics. With help from Richards, they’re simply showcasing something different to expand the Mystic audience.

Rigging at the boat’s transom is immaculate.

“We listen to our customers when they suggest different things,” Zivitski emphasized. “A lot of things we are doing now came from the first client who had us do it, and that’s worked out really well as we’ve made changes going forward. You can’t keep doing the same things all the time and expect to stay fresh.”

Four Mercury Racing 600 Verado outboard engines will power the 52-footer. They will, of course, be painted to match the rest of the boat.

Richards owns 40-foot (above) and 44-foot Mystic catamarans and has another 40-footer coming.

“Less than half of outboard used to get paint,” Harrell said, then laughed and sighed. “Now they all do. Everyone wants graphics on them.”

But somebody had to go first.
