Want To Catch Key West Sunday Races Above-Deck In Posh Style? Party Hard And Bid High

Having covered the annual Key West Offshore World Championships from every perspective other than inside a raceboat, I strongly recommend catching at least one Key West race from a yacht before you die. It is, in the words of the charming, fictional sociopath Ferris Bueller, “so choice.”

The challenges, of course, are access and affordability. Just one day on a 100-foot vessel for two couples with all the trimmings—fine-food catering and a well-stocked open bar—such as Rob and Christine Lockyer’s Leonardo beauty—could run you $15,000.

Thanks to Rob and Christine Lockyer and Alex Pratt, a Sunday yacht experience during the Race World Offshore Key West World Championships is on the Speed On The Water Key West Bash auction block.

But if you come to the 12th annual Speed On The Water Key West Bash set for Thursday evening, November 6, and bid high you might come away with the experience of a lifetime. That’s because the couple—in partnership with Alex Pratt of Good Boy Vodka brand fame—has graciously donated a Sunday race-viewing experience for two couples on their 101-footer as an auction item. As noted above, the package includes a catered lunch and nibbles and a top-shelf open-bar.

If the Lockyer family name sounds familiar, it should. In late August, Rob Lockyer and Pratt ran to victory in the former’s 52-foot Team 25/Good Boy Vodka Outerlimits V-bottom at the famed Cowes-Torquay offshore endurance race in the United Kingdom. More recently, Lockyer and driver Christian McCauley had a strong showing in the new Factory Stock-class GoGPS/Good Boy Vodka raceboat at the St. Petersburg Grand Prix.

The 38-footer will spruce up Greene Street outside the Pickle’s Pub Sandbar host-venue during the Thursday night affair. Proceeds from the auction and other fundraising efforts than evening will be split evenly between the Key West-based Samuel’s House shelter for women and children and AHEC Health Centers, “which provides access to no cost medical and low cost dental care for the school age children of Monroe County (Fla.), no matter their financial circumstances.”

Proceeds will be divided evenly between the two 501(c)(3) charities. Winning bidders will be required to pay immediately after the bidding on each auction item closes. No exceptions will be made.

Picture yourself here—and bid high.
