XINSURANCE South, Graydel And More Take Top Honors In Inaugural WPRA National Series
With four events that translated to eight races, the first World Powerboat Racing Association National Championships ended last month with the Race World Offshore-produced event in Clearwater, Fla. That left Pro Class 1 M CON Offshore Racing and XINSURANCE South teams tied in points for top honors, which meant that the organization had to use a tie-breaking format determined, per the organization’s rules, by which team had the most first-place finishes.

Using that process, XINSURNANCE South has been award the Pro Class 1 National Championship, followed by M CON Offshore Racing and GC Racing/MTI.
“We are delighted to have won the national title,” said Bill Pyburn, Jr., the throttleman for the XINSURANCE. “That said, our guys are hard at work preparing for the Key West Worlds.”
Per the published results, the Graydel of team owner/driver Chris Grant and throttleman Jay Muller are the Super Cat National Champions and will carry the U.S. 1 sticker into Key West. They are followed by the Dirty Money team of driver Brit Lilly and throttleman Bill Pyburn—the same cockpit pairing that ran the XINSURANCE South Pro Class 1 raceboat all-season and CR Racing.

The Nautical Ventures team is the WPRA Super Stock National Champion.
Top honors in the Super Stock class went to owner/throttleman Shaun Torrente and driver Matt Jamniczky of the Nautical Ventures team, followed by Raymarine and Wozencraft/TFR, which earned third place in just its first season.
In the Factory Stock category, the GC/MTI Racing team of owner Willy Cabeza and throttleman Grant Bruggemann earned national championship honors. The team was followed by Say Less MF in second and Wozencraft/TFR taking third.
In the Mod V ranks, the XINSURNANCE/Statement Marine team of throttleman Nick Buis and J.J. Turk claimed the National Championship title. They were followed by Boatfloater.com and Safe Cash/XINSURANCE.
